In modern day Camden, Frances works as a communications officer and spends a lot less of their time actively involved in solving crimes. This doesn't take away from their ability to help a *certain someone* cover up his crimes, though, so they're quite happy with their position. Given its London, there is plenty of crime which they have to help fight, which means they're fairly busy. Often, once she gets home, Frances will end up slumped on her sofa with a microwave meal or hunched over her computer watching Youtube videos, drowning out the noise of the busy streets outside. But sometimes, Emile visits, and the boredom and exhaustion isn't quite as biting.
Well, I should probably talk about the toxic stuff now, shouldn't I?
Frances is in what she calls a committed relationship with Emile, the foolhardy criminal himself, but sometimes he takes himself off to who knows where to cause trouble in other cities. And Frances needs a new distraction. Frances, during these months, is a cheater. They've never been sure if Emile has figured it out and just doesn't care or if they've managed to keep it under wraps, but that anxiety and guilt eats at them when they sleep beside their boyfriend when he comes over after his long months away. She'll never outright tell him, of course, in case he doesn't know and she breaks his heart.
Part of their cheating comes from resentment, as well as the aforementioned loneliness and need for distractions. Despite having known what they were getting into when associating themself with Emile, she holds an anger close to her chest for the situation she's in. Having to cover up his misdeeds, grappling with the moral implications of sleeping with a known murderer and arsonist and coming to the realisation that the hypocrisy of their actions will always destroy them inside, Frances puts every bad feeling they harbour towards Emile, whether its warranted or not. In simple terms, they hate fuck, but the hate is one sided.
I will absolutely post more about Frances at a later date, but my next post is going to be about Emile to complete the pairing. Writing these two compared to my other stories having much more wholesome relationship dynamics is honestly really fun. Stay tuned for more!
